In short
GDPR compliant AI platforms for companies differ in three places: where the platform runs, which models sit behind it, and how much of the working day it covers. Langdock, DeutschlandGPT and innoGPT are German chat and agent platforms at roughly €24 to €25 per user and month. Microsoft 365 Copilot, Google Workspace and Notion add AI to a suite you already use. Pharen Hub combines team chat, projects, documents, workflows and AI agents in one workspace.
Self hosting is the widest gap. Langdock lists on-premise from 5,000 seats, DeutschlandGPT rules it out, Mistral offers it on the Enterprise plan. Pharen Hub can be self hosted with a licence from €20. No vendor makes a company compliant through server location alone, because model providers and contracts count as well. All figures as of 19 September 2026.
“Wer On-Premises braucht, braucht ein anderes Modell.” If you need on-premise, you need a different product. That sentence sits on the security page of DeutschlandGPT, and it is more candid than most comparison tables. Langdock’s own security page puts on-premise at 5,000 seats and up. A company of 80 people that wants its AI on its own server is turned away by both.
So this comparison of GDPR compliant AI platforms sorts nine vendors by the questions that separate them. Every one of them says “GDPR compliant” on the homepage. Where the data sits, who runs the models and at what size you may host it yourself is usually three clicks deeper.
We are a vendor ourselves: Pharen Hub is in the list. That is why every statement about the others was checked on their own pages on 19 September 2026 and links to its source. Where we found nothing we could cite, the table says so.
Which kinds of AI platform are there?
European companies choose between three kinds of AI platform in 2026: chat and agent platforms, suites with AI built in, and workspaces that combine both. The kind decides what you still have to buy afterwards.
Chat and agent platforms give you one interface for several language models, plus assistants, agents and workflows. Langdock, DeutschlandGPT, innoGPT, ChatGPT Business and Enterprise, and Mistral Vibe (until recently Le Chat) belong here. None of them includes team chat, project management or a wiki. Those keep running in your other tools.
Suites with AI built in are Microsoft 365 Copilot, Google Workspace with Gemini and Notion AI. The AI works where your documents and mail already live. You do not pick the model, and none of the three can be self hosted.
Workspaces with agents such as Pharen Hub put team chat, projects, documents, lists, workflows and AI agents into one environment. The cost: you introduce a new place to work, not an add-on.
Hosting, self hosting and model choice
Server location alone does not settle the data protection question, because models from OpenAI, Anthropic or Google run behind almost every platform. The table therefore separates hosting, operator and model connection.
| Vendor | Headquarters | Hosting | Self hosting | Models |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pharen Hub | Germany | Managed cloud or your own environment (Hetzner, Azure, AWS, Google Cloud, your own server) | Yes, licence from €20 | Selected, customer-owned, self-hosted or OpenAI-compatible models |
| Langdock | Germany | EU on Microsoft Azure | Single tenant from 2,000 seats, on-premise from 5,000 | More than 40 models, own API keys possible |
| DeutschlandGPT | Germany | Open Telekom Cloud, Magdeburg and Biere | No | GPT, Claude, Gemini, Llama, Mistral |
| innoGPT | Germany (Vechta) | AWS Frankfurt | Mentioned in its own blog, not confirmed on the security page | More than 50 models |
| Mistral Vibe Enterprise | France | EU by default | Yes, on the Enterprise plan | Mistral models, custom fine-tuning on Enterprise |
| Microsoft 365 Copilot | USA | EU Data Boundary, Anthropic models excluded | No | Provided by Microsoft |
| Google Workspace with Gemini | USA | EU data region selectable from Business Standard | No | Google models |
| Notion AI | USA | AWS, EU data residency on Enterprise only | No | Third parties as subprocessors |
| ChatGPT Business and Enterprise | USA | European data residency for new Enterprise workspaces, according to OpenAI | No | OpenAI models |

Two details get lost in most overviews. Langdock and innoGPT are German companies, but their infrastructure runs on Azure and AWS, which are US groups with EU data centres. DeutschlandGPT hosts in the Open Telekom Cloud and advertises being outside US jurisdiction. By its own account GPT, Claude and Gemini run there through enterprise access in EU data centres with zero data retention. The model providers remain US companies all the same.
The same applies to us. A self hosted Pharen Hub with a US model behind it sends requests to that model. If you want to rule that out, connect your own or a self hosted model. The guide to the self hosted AI workspace covers the details.
What does each platform cover?
Scope decides how many subscriptions keep running next to the AI platform. A chat platform at €25 per head replaces neither Slack nor Asana nor Notion. A workspace can, but it asks for a move.
| Vendor | Team chat | Projects and tasks | Documents and wiki | Workflows | AI agents |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pharen Hub | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Langdock | No | No | No | Yes, as an add-on | Yes |
| DeutschlandGPT | No | No | No | Yes, billed by usage | Yes |
| innoGPT | No | No | No, Canvas creates documents | Yes | Yes, as assistants |
| Mistral Vibe Enterprise | No | No | No | Yes | Yes |
| Microsoft 365 Copilot | Yes, Teams | Yes, Planner | Yes | Yes, Power Automate with its own licence | Yes |
| Google Workspace with Gemini | Yes | Basic | Yes | Not publicly documented | Not publicly documented |
| Notion AI | No | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| ChatGPT Business and Enterprise | No | No | No | Limited | Yes |
The rows for Microsoft, Google, Notion and ChatGPT reflect the generally known product scope, not a single vendor page. Check them against your actual plan.
Microsoft 365 covers almost everything if your company already works there. Copilot is then the obvious first test. The limit is model choice and operation: Microsoft decides both. The full comparison is under Pharen vs. Microsoft 365.
What do AI platforms for companies cost?
The German chat platforms sit at €24 to €25 per user and month, Copilot at €26 on top of the Microsoft 365 licence. Pharen Hub bills per workspace, not per head. All prices as published by the vendors on 19 September 2026.
| Vendor | Public price | Billing |
|---|---|---|
| Pharen Hub | Free, Starter €25, Team €79, Pro €199 per month. Self hosted licence from €20. | Per workspace, AI usage billed by consumption |
| Langdock | Business €25, Business Max €99. Workflows add-on €539 to €1,199 per workspace. | Per user and month |
| DeutschlandGPT | Free €0, Business €24 (€20 billed annually) | Per user and month, workflows by usage |
| innoGPT | No price list on the website | Plans: Personal, Business, Business Max, Enterprise |
| Mistral Vibe | Pro $14.99, Team $24.99, Enterprise on request | Per user and month |
| Microsoft 365 Copilot | €26.00 as an add-on with annual commitment | Per user and month, on top of the Microsoft 365 plan |
| Google Workspace | Starter €6.80, Standard €13.60, Plus €21.10 | Per user and month with annual commitment, Gemini depends on the plan |
| Notion | Plus €9.50, Business €19.50 with Notion Agent | Per user and month, custom agents through credits |
| ChatGPT Business and Enterprise | We could not verify it on the vendor page | Per user, Enterprise on request |

A worked example for 30 people: Langdock Business comes to €750 a month, DeutschlandGPT Business to €720, Copilot to €780 plus the Microsoft 365 licences. Pharen Hub on the Pro plan costs €199 plus AI consumption, which depends on your usage. Whether that ends up cheaper depends on which other subscriptions you can cancel. The cost comparison runs it with your numbers.
Certificates and training: what the vendors commit to
Langdock, DeutschlandGPT, innoGPT, Microsoft, Google and Notion state on their pages that customer data is not used for training. At Mistral that is the default on Enterprise only; on the smaller plans you have to opt out.
- Langdock: ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II, data processing agreement in the trust centre.
- DeutschlandGPT: ISO/IEC 27001:2022 and ISO 9001 from TÜV SÜD. BSI C5 Type 2 applies to the hosting infrastructure, not to the product itself.
- innoGPT: ISO 27001, DPA can be signed digitally in the account.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot: ISO 27001, ISO 42001, Data Protection Addendum.
- Google Workspace: SOC 1 to 3, ISO 27001, 27017, 27018, 27701 and ISO 42001.
- Notion: SOC 2 Type 2, several ISO standards and BSI C5. Zero data retention is available on Enterprise only.
- Pharen Hub: We do not currently hold an ISO 27001 certificate. What we do technically and organisationally is on the security page. If a certificate is a purchasing condition, one of the other vendors is the right choice today, or you run Pharen Hub inside your own certified environment.
A certificate documents a management system at the vendor. Your own duties stay: legal basis, processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR, and a data protection impact assessment for sensitive uses.
Which vendor fits which case?
| Situation | Obvious choice |
|---|---|
| You want ChatGPT for everyone, with a German contract partner and free model choice. | Langdock, DeutschlandGPT or innoGPT |
| Hosting outside US cloud providers is mandatory. | DeutschlandGPT as managed cloud, Pharen Hub or Mistral self hosted |
| You need on-premise with fewer than 2,000 users. | Pharen Hub or Mistral Enterprise |
| Your company works entirely in Microsoft 365. | Test Copilot first |
| Your knowledge lives in Notion and AI should write and search there. | Notion AI on the Business plan |
| Chat, projects, documents and agents run in five tools and you want one. | Pharen Hub |
| A vendor ISO certificate is a purchasing condition. | Langdock, DeutschlandGPT, innoGPT, Microsoft, Google or Notion |
How to check an AI vendor in one week
- Write down one real process, for example checking incoming invoices or following up quotes, with the data that appears in it.
- Ask each vendor in writing: where is the data stored, which subprocessors see it, and which model handles the requests?
- Get the DPA and the subprocessor list before anyone creates a trial account.
- Test the process with three people from the business team, not with IT alone.
- Calculate the cost for twelve months, including the tools that keep running alongside.
The incoming invoice process from our client work shows what such a process looks like with us.
Frequently asked questions
Which ChatGPT alternative is GDPR compliant?
No platform is GDPR compliant by itself; your specific use becomes compliant. Vendors with EU hosting, a DPA and a training exclusion give you a good starting point: Langdock, DeutschlandGPT, innoGPT, Mistral and Pharen Hub. What decides the rest is which model handles the requests and which data you put in.
Which AI platform can I host myself?
Three of the nine platforms compared here can be self hosted. Pharen Hub with a self hosted licence from €20, Mistral Vibe on the Enterprise plan and Langdock from 5,000 seats. DeutschlandGPT explicitly rules out on-premise; Microsoft, Google, Notion and OpenAI do not offer it.
Are German AI vendors automatically safer than US vendors?
No. A German contract partner simplifies contract, support and liability. Several German vendors host on Azure or AWS, though, and route requests to models from OpenAI, Anthropic or Google. Ask about hosting, subprocessors and model providers separately.
The company of 80 from the opening has its answer: on-premise exists for it, just not at the vendors that top most lists. If you want to run the test with a process of your own, talk to us or start on the free plan.
